VOLUNTEERING If
you want to join in to help NY's urban street cats there are many ways to participate
in the URBAN CAT LEAGUE. There are as many ways to help as there are different
kinds of cats.
If you are a get-up-and-go-getter: You
may want to learn to trap street cats and help in a very hands-on way Socializing
feral kittens is a skill anyone can learn but takes time and patience. You
could foster a couple kittens or a street cat for a couple weeks in your home
to get them ready for adoption.
If
you have a vehicle:
- You
could help transport equipment on a big trapping day
- You
could pick up a cat from the vet after spay/neuter
- Make
a run to pick up a food, litter and/or supplies
- Pick
up a bale of straw for bedding in outdoor shelters
Prefer
office work to litter pans? - We
always need help updating our mailing list for fundraising
- Follow-up
phone calls after adoptions and interviewing prospective adopters
- Experienced grant writers to help prepare our grant proposals.
- Help us stamp and stuff envelops at a brochure mailing party.
- Help tally email orders for our food coop.
Do
you prefer to help behind the scenes?
- Send
us a mailing list if you think your group might be prospective donors
- Convince
a friend to adopt a stray rather than buy from a breeder
- Call
a city council member and express your concern about the street cat population
in NYC.
- Tell
friends and neighbors about low-cost spay/neuter clinics (Fund for Animals, ASPCA-C.A.R.E.S).
Follow-up to prevent another litter of unwanted animals.
- Organize
an office collection for URBAN CAT LEAGUE. Small donations add up. The NY City
Opera Chorus raised over $1,000 in small donations.
Too
busy to get involved? Donations are always welcome! Tell
a friend about URBAN CAT LEAGUE. |
